MING Bandwidth Monitor
MING Bandwidth Monitor PRO
Installation
Once the file has downloaded completely, please open the folder containing
the file you downloaded.
Double-click the installation file you just downloaded to start installing
MING Bandwidth Monitor on your computer.
At the end of installation, you must install the WinPCap 3.1 package.
Bandwidth Monitor Popup Menu
To activate Bandwidth Monitor Popup menu, click right mouse button on Bandwidth Monitor
tray icon. The options available from this menu are:
Open Monitor: Show Bandwidth Monitor main
window.
Window: Show or hide a kind of window.
Internet & LAN: All traffic of this computer.
Internet: Internet traffic of this computer.
LAN: Traffic of this computer on the local network.
INTERNET (All PCs): Internet traffic of all PCs on the LAN.
Hide: Hide Bandwidth Monitor main window.
Statistics: Show statistics dialog box.
Options: Show Options dialog box.
Help: Show help window.
About: About Bandwidth Monitor dialog box.
Exit: Terminate Bandwidth Monitor.
General Options
You can open the Options dialog box by selecting Options from Bandwidth
Monitor pop-up menu.
Windows properties
Always on top: Select this checkbox to make
Bandwidth Monitor appear on top of all other desktop windows.
Show window caption: This checkbox controls whether the window caption of
Bandwidth data window is displayed or not.
Start minimized: When this option is enabled,
Bandwidth Monitor will be started with its window minimized.
Display average values: When this feature is enabled,
Bandwidth Monitor will display an average over a range of
an hour.
Semi-transparent window: Specify the visibility in percents: 10% is barely visible, and 90% is nearly opaque.
Display Mode
Graphical display: Only shows the real- time
graph.
Numeric display: Only shows numeric readout.
Both graphical & numeric: Shows both
Display Units
Kilobytes per Second (kB/s): When this option is selected, numeric readings of
Bandwidth Monitor will show data throughput in units of 1024 bytes per second.
Kilobits per Second (kbps): When this option is selected, numeric readings of
Bandwidth Monitor will show data throughput in units of 1000 bits per second.
Load with Windows
When this option is enabled, Bandwidth Monitor will load itself each time Windows is started.
Graph Options
You can change graph settings in Graph Options tab.
Grid and labels
Show Vertical grid lines: Bandwidth Monitor can display vertical grid lines every 10, 20, 30 seconds or every minute. Specify the frequency (density) of vertical graph lines, or disable them altogether here.
Show maximum graph value: Bandwidth Monitor can show current maximum graph value which shows your connection speed as stated in "Graph range and scaling" below. Disable or enable these features here.
Graph Colors
You can customize the colors of Data Transfer graph. This graph is shown with four different
colors.
Download: When the data is being transferred only from the remote computer to your PC.
Upload: When the data is being transferred only from your PC to the remote computer.
Both: When the data is being transferred in both directions.
Idle: When no data is being transferred.
Graph range and scaling
Connection Type: You can select 'Resize graph automatically', when transfer rate varies
greatly. If your network device is one of the predefined devices in this list, you can select
it and your maximum transfer rate will be adjusted accordingly.
If your device is not present in the supported devices list, then use the manual setup option below.
Custom Connections: Enter the maximum transfer rate of your network device here.
Notifications Options
You can change Notifications settings in
Notifications Options tab.
If notifications are enabled, Bandwidth Monitor will notify the
user when data transfer rate drops below the specified
minimum or exceed the specified maximum. It will play user-specified sound file and
display warning message (if selected).
Statistics
The statistics window show statistics about all
defined filters. You can select one or more filter from
the list and the statistics table will display the total
download and upload amounts measured by the selected
filters during the selected period. You can choose
'Internet & LAN', 'Internet', 'LAN', and 'INTERNET
(all PCs)' statistics. You can also choose hourly, daily,
weekly, monthly and yearly statistics.
Starting Bandwidth Monitor PRO for the First Time
After you start Bandwidth Monitor PRO, just click the "Start" button or
click menu item Control->Start to start capturing packets. Then a window will
show as below:
After select a correct network interface, the traffic
of all processes in your computer will be metered and
monitored.
Main Window
Main window is divided into three tabs. Each tab has several sub tabs, user
can change the sub tab by click icon
on the right of the tab name.
Windows processes Tab
This tab has two sub tabs: Windows processes and Windows process history.
The Windows processes sub tab shows list of all active processes captured in the
computer. Only those processes which have TCP or UDP connections will be
displayed. Each line shows one process with its name, icon, program path and
traffic information. Clicks on the process item can view the content of
the process in the bottom tab, like active connections with remote address,
remote port and so on.
The Windows process history sub tab allows you to analyze the history data based on the
processes, time or date.
Computer Tab
This tab has four tabs: Internet & LAN, Internet, LAN and Computer
history.
The Computer Tab displays all traffic to/from your computer.
It shows Internet traffic, LAN traffic or both (Internet & LAN). You can
see current speed, average speed (over a range of an hour) and max speed of
the day. You can view the total download and upload amounts in the
"traffic" List box. The Computer history sub tab allows you to
browse the history data based on the objects, time or date.
LAN PCs Tab
This tab has two tabs: LAN PCs and LAN PCs history. The LAN PCs Tab shows Internet
traffic of all PCs on the LAN.
Windows processes
After you start Bandwidth Monitor PRO to capture
packets, the Windows processes sub tab will
show as below:
It shows list of all active processes captured in the
computer which have TCP or UDP connections. Each line shows one process with its name, icon, program path and
traffic information (bandwidth & speed). Clicks on the process item can view the content of
the process in the bottom tab, which has four sub tabs.
Process tab shows the basic information of the
process.
Connections tab shows active connections of the process,
with local address, local port, remote address,
remote port and network traffic found on this connection. If you want to
lookup the remote address, you can move the mouse to
that line, then click the line or click the 'Lookup'
button on the right of the top.
Bandwidth tab shows the process bandwidth data in a real-time graphic display.
Traffic tab logs the traffic data of each connection
which is closed. It includes time, connection
parameters, upload and download traffic.
Windows processes history
The Windows processes history sub tab will
show as below:
It shows list of some processes which were captured in the
computer by some filters. You can select one
process or all processes, and setup the period. All
processes which matched the filters will be
displayed. Clicks on the process item can view the content of
the process in the bottom tab.
Computer traffic
The Computer tab will
show as below:
It shows network traffic to/from your computer. This
tab has three sub tabs: Internet & LAN
(All traffic of this computer), Internet (Internet traffic of this
computer), and LAN (Traffic of this computer on the local
network). You can
see current speed, average speed (over a range of an hour) and max speed of
the day. You can view the total download and upload amounts in the
"traffic" List box. The Computer history sub tab allows you to
browse the history data based on the objects, time or date.
Add new language
You can add new language to MING Bandwidth Monitor
PRO by creating a new language file. Go to the directory
where Bandwidth Monitor PRO is installed, find the
language file like mbmp_english.txt, and copy it to a
new file. Then you can translate it to a new language
file, and rename the translated file to mbmp_<name of the language>.txt.
After restart the program, you will find a new language
item is added to the menu. If you create a new language
file, please send it to us to get a full version for free!
Please read carefully the instructions of how to translate this file
on the top of the language file.
Stealth Mode
Click menu item Control->Settings to Enable
stealth Mode. When the settings are shown the top option
is "Run at Windows Start up". Click the Ok
button to save your changes. Network Monitor is now set to
run when Windows starts. (If you also choose the
"Stealth" mode option Network Monitor will not be
visible and will only be accessible using the hot
key.) If "Automatically minimize to system
tray when run" item is selected, this option
will cause Network Monitor to be minimized to the system
tray when Network Monitor is run. This option is recommended
if you choose to use Normal Mode.
In Stealth Mode, you must set a hotkey.
The default hotkey is CTRL+ALT+0. You can use
second hotkey to prevent unauthorized users from
"guessing" Network Monitor's hot key simply by
trying all possible combinations.
You can use a password to access MING Network Monitor. This includes viewing chat logs, changing
settings, and so on.
